Puff Daddy...P. Diddy...Diddy or is it Love now? Lets go with Mr. Sean Combs, he said that he wants to bring R & B back, I thought about this statement for a while and I started to think of all the great R & B artists we have out to this day like Chris Brown , Beyonce , Tank , LLoyd , BJ The Chicago Kid, Sammie, Ledisi, Jacquees , Lucky Daye, Kevin Ross , SIR ... Masego . I could go on and on but you get the gist of it . I feel outside of Chris Brown and Tank these other artists don't get the credit they deserve. Which is no different from the underrated talents like Cheri Dennis , Syleena Johnson, Lelah James , Case, Joe, Bando Jones, Donnell Jones or J. Holiday , these are just some of the artists from the past that didn't ( in my opinion) get their just due .
Whew! I did a lot of name dropping but as Diddy search for that missing R & B , I reminisce on the R & B talent that we as a whole did not support. Most of these previous named artists very well had what it took to be considered one of the greats. Now I know there were other reasons why some of these artists didn't have longevity , like contracts, labels etc... I'm just saying sometimes things be right in our
face and we don't appreciate it.
Lets assume he was talking about R & B groups like New Edition, 112, Total, Escape , Jodeci and Silk . Although these groups were pretty successful . I will admit that singing groups , equipt with the dance routines are pretty much a thing of the past. I would love to see new groups form a union and bring back some of that feel good musical performance . Question is... In a world where everyone gets 2 minutes to shine and attention spans are a snap of the fingers short, will we appreciate it ?
Good music never dies !!!
