Everyone who knows me , knows my love for Robert Sylvester Kelly . This is not a

infatuation but simply an admiration for a man and his love for the true essence of music.

To me , R. Kelly is the greatest R & B performer (after Michael Jackson ) … some would love to debate this , such as my mother , she says the greatest male R & B performer was Luther Vandross and then a friend of mines says it is Prince , but since this is my article , I say R Kelly and then Chris Brown are the greatest male performers and Beyonce is the greatest female performer !

Despite selling millions of recordings and writing classic songs not only for himself but for others as well . R. Kelly has withstood the test of time deeming him one of the best to do it and as a vocalist, songwriter, producer and now author he keeps evolving and growing against all odds or should I say the piercing darts of his past trials and tribulations.

R Kelly has created some timeless music . He has used classic materials to create even greater music . Love Letter & Write Me Back are pure examples of this. As a great tribute to classic soul/R&B music he took you back to the ‘50s and ‘60s, an era of musical inspirations for those before him when it seem others whom lack interest in paying homage. With the exception BJ The Chicago Kid , an artist that pays homage as well with his amazing talent.

Although I prefer the classic R Kelly , his wide range of artistic talents and music influences are every where. He can literally take you into a musical twilight zone and revive you into the new age era never skipping a beat on what real R & B is and should be.

I can’t lie , it rubbed me the wrong way to hear songs like “ Cookie , Marry The Pussy etc… mainly because I felt like R kelly was watering down his music to adjust todays version of R & B …See R Kelly has a way of saying anything in a way the is musically sexual and tasteful …which in my opinion reminds a woman that “ you can say anything you want to me …it’s all in how you say it”!

In an era where hip hop has overshadowed R&B as mainstream music R. Kelly remains “the R in R&B.”!

R Kelly's memoir “Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me” is his first book which has allowed the singer-songwriter to define himself and dig deep into his life story. The singer makes a big distinction between R. Kelly the star and Robert Kelly the human being. “They already know who R. Kelly is. They know R. Kelly performs and they know he’s written and produced hit songs for himself and other people. But I felt it was time they met Robert, the mama’s boy, Robert the brother, Robert the father and most of all Robert the person.”

He shouldn’t be loved solely because of his music ability , he should be loved because he is only human ….he is just like us “ IMPERFECTLY PERFECT ”!

“When you become a celebrity and a legend in the field that you’re in, everybody thinks they know you and people form opinions about you without really knowing who you are,” “Nobody really knows you until they know the things you’ve been through. The only way to do that was to tell my story. In life there are two sides to every story, but unfortunately in my case there are about forty different sides to the story.”- Robert Kelly
