Akili Cooper is 20-years old and a graduate of the Arts & College Preparatory Academy in Columbus, Ohio. When he was in middle school, his teacher assigned him to draw a renaissance dress for a project, with her encouragement he began to seriously consider a career in the fashion industry. He read about fashion marketing, trend analysis and many overseas designers. He quickly settled for a career in fashion design. In August 2010 Akili held his first fashion show where he displayed 19 garments from his designs. He also participated in Fashion Week Columbus 2010, I’m Every Woman Expo 2011 and 26 other shows around the Columbus area, including another show May 2012 where he created 30 looks. The show was called “The Finale”. His tag line was it’s not the final show, it’s the Finale. Akili is inspired by Christian Dior, Versace & other Haute Couture designers. Akili says his biggest accomplishment will be to have the name “Jahi” as a household name.
